Rabigh 4 Independent Water Project Wins PPP Project Initiative of the Year at Asian Water Awards 2026

The Rabigh 4 Independent Water Project, developed by SHARAKAT, has received the PPP Project Initiative of the Year – Saudi Arabia award at the Asian Water Awards 2026, organized by Asian Power magazine, a publication of Charlton Media Group. The recognition highlights the project’s contribution to water infrastructure development and its adoption of effective public-private partnership (PPP) models that support water security and sustainable water supplies across Saudi Arabia.

The award underscores the strategic significance of Rabigh 4 as a major water infrastructure project contributing to the expansion of desalinated water production capacity and the efficiency of the Kingdom’s water supply system. The project plays an important role in meeting growing water demand and strengthening the reliability of water services.

Rabigh 4 has a production capacity of approximately 600,000 cubic metres per day, supporting the availability of desalinated water and enhancing water supply sustainability in the Makkah region. The project contributes to meeting the increasing demand driven by population growth, urban expansion, and economic development.

The project demonstrates the effectiveness of public-private partnerships in developing essential infrastructure by leveraging private sector financing, technical capabilities, and operational expertise. This approach contributes to attracting investment, improving economic efficiency, and delivering sustainable infrastructure with long-term developmental value.

Rabigh 4 also reflects SHARAKAT’s approach to water infrastructure development, which combines strategic planning with effective investment models to improve project delivery efficiency and operational sustainability. This approach supports the development of a more resilient water supply system capable of responding to current and future needs.

Water desalination infrastructure is becoming increasingly important as Saudi Arabia continues to experience population growth, urban expansion, and economic development. These trends reinforce the need for sustainable production capacity capable of meeting future demand while maintaining operational efficiency and reliable water supplies.

The recognition of Rabigh 4 highlights the importance of developing desalination projects through innovative partnership models that integrate investment efficiency, operational performance, and sustainability, strengthening water infrastructure readiness and supporting national development objectives.

This achievement builds on SHARAKAT’s continued efforts to develop high-impact projects in collaboration with the private sector and contribute to the objectives of the National Water Strategy 2030 by enhancing water security, improving infrastructure efficiency, and supporting a reliable and sustainable water supply system that contributes to the Kingdom’s economic and social development.
